A summary of actions and information from the meetings of Pittsburgh Presbytery

February 12, 2015 meeting of Pittsburgh Presbytery:

Opened with worship, the Rev. John Welch of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary preached and $1,429.55 was received in offering to be divided between the Lazarus Fund and the Hunger Fund

Celebrated Black History Month, led by the Amos 5:24 team with a presentation on the Living Wage and small group discussion

Elected:

Installed to their respective offices:  the new Moderator, Ruling Elder Lenore Williams; Senior Vice-Moderator, Teaching Elder Jay Lewis; all three branch Vice-Moderators; and Stated Clerk, Ruling Elder Carla Campbell

Presented a resolution of thanks to the outgoing Moderator, Teaching Elder Carolyn Cranston, for her dedication and service to the presbytery

Accepted the request to elect three individuals to the Self-Development of People (SDOP) Committee of the Synod of the Trinity (Ruling Elders Simone Spaulding Cephas, Judith A. Jerry, and Hill Jordan) as new business, requesting that time was of the essence, and elected them accordingly

Heard Candidate Darlene Figgs share her sense of call with the presbytery

Received:

Recognized the International Partnership team of six leaders, (Teaching Elders Dave Carver, Gary Willingham-McLain, Susan Rothenberg, Sharon Stewart, and Ken White along with Ruth Portnoff, youth representative),  who recently travelled to South Sudan;  team members are available to speak with congregations about their trip

Offered prayer for our ministry partners in South Sudan and Malawi who are suffering persecution (South Sudan) and flooding (Malawi); all are encouraged to stand with our partners in prayer

Granted dismissal of the Rev. Jeri Lynn Bouterse to the Presbytery of Scioto Valley

Appointed the Rev. Lori Bass-Riley as moderator of the McKeesport Presbyterian Church for the months of January, February, and March 2015

Reported new, sweeping changes to the laws of Pennsylvania regarding mandatory reporting of child abuse and required clearance and background checks; a summary is posted on the presbytery website; information will be mailed to congregations
