A summary of actions and information from the meetings of Pittsburgh Presbytery

May 8, 2014 meeting of Pittsburgh Presbytery:

Opened with worship, the General Minister the Rev. Dr. Sheldon Sorge preaching a sermon entitled Pathways of Abundance

Continued a conversation on the costs of racism as organized by the EC, the Black Presbyterian Caucus, and the Amos 5:24 Ministry Team

Remembered in prayer the following members of Pittsburgh Presbytery and former staff who have recently joined the Church Triumphant: Doyle Snyder, Stewart Pollock, Donald Polito, Douglas Dunderdale, Elinor Fleming, and Robert Andreen

Commissioned the delegates of Pittsburgh Presbytery including the Young Adult Advisory Delegate to the 221st General Assembly (GA) meeting in Detroit from June 14-21 and commissioned the summer staff of Crestfield Camp & Conference Center to their respective positions

The Great Commission Team presented a video of mission activities narrated by the Rev. David Schrader

The Rev. Liddy Barlow was introduced as the new Executive Minister for Christian Associates of Southwest PA

Dr. Helen Blier, the new Director of Continuing Education at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, introduced coming Continuing Education opportunities at PTS

The Commission on Ministry moved the following actions and presbytery concurred:

The Nominating Committee reported and presented candidates for election as follows:

Tentative dates for the meeting of the presbytery for calendar year 2015 are as follows: February 12, May 7 or 14, September 24 (at Crestfield Camp & Conference Center), and December 10

Anyone interested in reviewing the business pending before the 221st General Assembly (GA) may do so by visiting the PC-BIZ website. Once a login and password have been established, all currently pending overtures and other business may be viewed and the GA proceedings followed daily online

After a resolution of thanks to the hosts of East Union Presbyterian Church, presbytery was adjourned with prayer by Candidate Bonnie Taylor
